PURPOSE AND GOALS

Child Evangelism Fellowship of Northern Virginia is committed to reaching children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, through trained, dedicated workers. These workers are men and women with a burden to reach the unreached. During the school year, they lead Good News Clubs® which meet once a week for an hour in local homes, apartment complexes, and elementary schools in After-School Good News Clubs®. The teachers and hostesses hold holiday clubs, or Party clubs such as birthday parties for Jesus at Christmas season, and others throughout the year. This is also a means of reaching out to un-evangelized children in the area. In the summer, 5-Day Clubs® are led by trained adults and high school students, for one hour per day, five consecutives days at each location. Working at the Fairs is also a big part of CEF® ministry in the summertime. The heart of CEF is the training class, to prepare children’s workers in churches for a fruitful ministry with them.

HISTORY

Child Evangelism Fellowship was founded in 1937 by J. Irwin Overholtzer. CEF is an international, Bible centered, worldwide faith ministry organization composed of born-again believers. The purpose of CEF is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and disciple them in the Word of God, and establish them in a local Bible believing church for Christian living. The work is established in every state in the Union, throughout Canada, and over one hundred fifty countries, with greater than 2000 full -time workers and over 40,000 volunteers.

BACKGROUND

I, Wayne Rautio, was born and raised in a Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church in Northern Michigan. I first became involved in Christian work at a Bible Conference in New Hampshire in 1964, where I met my wife Diane. We went from there to Bibletown Community Church in Boca Raton, Fl. and into Child Evangelism Fellowship® in 1972. We served as local Directors of Palm Beach County Fl., for two years. I attended Word of Life Bible Institute, and while there taught a class on Child Evangelism. We spent two tours overseas with CEF, from 1976-1984 in Finland and Germany. In the 90s Diane and I served on the State board in New Hampshire. I’ve made two teaching trips to Russia, in 1996 and 1997 with Campus Crusade for Christ, teaching at the New Life Bible College in Moscow. In the Spring of 2004 I made another teaching trip to Minsk, Belarus and the Baltics. Diane and I taught in Russia and the Baltics again in Sept. 2006. I made another teaching trip to the Baltics in September of 2008. Diane and I will be making another teaching trip to the Baltics and Finland August 2012.  I praise Him for calling me to work in CEF of Northern Virginia because of the international community. I assumed the directorship here Jan. 1, 1999. Besides my involvement with Child Evangelism Fellowship and Campus Crusade for Christ, I’ve worked with many churches teaching Sunday school teachers and giving seminars on the Responsibility of Christian Parents. My strengths are in organization and motivation. I have always been a teacher or leader in every field of work. My love is to see children come to know the Lord as early as possible, then grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
